Scaffolding is a raised platform that’s traditionally used for workers to do work on the outside of a building. The size of the platform will depend on how high the workers are, how many of them are working, and their tools. It’s also sometimes referred to as “staging.” At Nationwide Ladder, we’re committed to providing you with the best tools and scaffolding in MA to get your project off the ground.
It’s important to note that scaffolding is a temporary platform. It’s put up for workers to perform work on the outside of manmade structures like buildings and bridges. This work could be anything from cleaning, to painting, or even building the structure, and the type of scaffolding you would use reflects the kind of work you’d do.
What is it Made of?
Scaffolding in MA is typically made of tubing, boards, and couplers. The pipe, which is made of steel, aluminum, or composite. Composite tubes are most expensive, while aluminum is generally cheaper. Aluminum is also more flexible but has a lower resistance to stress – meaning it may not be suitable for long-term jobs or be able to hold heavy materials. The couplers hold the tubes together, while the wood boards lay across them and provide a surface for the workers to stand and keep their materials.
Is There More Than One Kind?
Although most common, scaffolding does not always have to start from the ground up. The kind that does start from the floor is called supported scaffolding, but here at Nationwide Ladder, we also carry roof scaffolding. This is attached to the roof surface and provides a layer of protection against falling.
Because of its temporary nature, staging is typically not freestanding. It’s usually tied to or otherwise connected to the adjacent building where the work is being done. This adds a layer of safety, while also making sure the platform is close enough to the building for the workers to access the materials comfortably.
It’s important to consider all aspects of your project to ensure you get the right scaffolding in MA for the job. Keeping you and your workers safe should be paramount. Visit us at one of our three locations in Windham NH, Worcester MA, or Gray ME for all your scaffolding and ladder needs!
